Strange Beauty

Beauty is nearly impossible to define. Every era, every generation, every one of us pursues our own culturally specific criteria and conventions for assessing beauty or trying to subvert it. Fleeting, ephemeral and yet omnipresent, beauty can barely be captured. It is only rarely undisputed, sometimes cumbersome and difficult to access. Beauty and art have always been closely linked.

The book accompanying the exhibition STRANGE BEAUTY shows examples from the second half of the 20th century to the present of how well-known, but also young contemporary artists, thematically approach beauty, which is often hidden, in the most varied and often surprising ways.
